The Society exists to promote interest in and commemoration of the Great War.
It holds six meetings a year. These take place in Welwyn Garden City.
The meetings feature guest speakers many from TV, radio, the Imperial War Museum or published authors.
Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of February, April, June, August, October and December and commence at 19.30hrs.
Guests are advised to arrive about 19.00hrs. to secure a seat and order their drinks at the bar, in readiness for the meeting. All Constabulary officers and staff are welcome, as are those from other forces. You may also bring up to two guests who are not members of the Constabulary.
The Society runs day trips to places associated with Great War history, as well as regular 3 or 4 day visits to the battlefields of France and Flanders.
Such trips are offered at a subsidised rate to members of the Sports and Social Club, which helps finance the Society.
In 2022 the Society ran two well attended trips. A long weekend in Verdun and a 6 day trip to Kobarid in Slovenia to visit the Isonzo Front battlefields.
In 2023 we ran two trips to The Somme Battlefields. One focusing on 1916 and the other 1918.
Our Society is one of the most vibrant and active Great War Societies in the country.
